Hi everyone, I own a 1999 Mercury Cougar 2.0L/5 Speed, and my alternator quit yesterday and turned the battery light on. You can rev it to about 6000 RPM or so and it will generate enough voltage to shut the light out, but as soon as RPM drop back down it kicks the light right back on. The alternator that is currently on it is an Ultima from Oreilly's that I put on it several years back, but I can't remember if it was a New or Reman unit. This time I will likely purchase one from RockAuto, and they offer New and Reman units and several different brands. Which one have you all had the best luck with for the 2.0L cougar? They have them ranging from $98 to over $200. I thought about the New AC Delco unit until I seen is was made in China, but then again, they all might be? Which one would you all recommend?

Thank You

No comment on brands, but stay away from reman alternators and starters. They're bad news.
Whichever you choose, make sure it has a lifetime warranty.

Thank You for the help, after doing much research, I ended up buying the "New" BBB Insutries unit from RockAuto. It isn't a Lifetime Warranty, but it is a 3 year Warranty, which was the best warranty RockAuto offered for an alternator. The reason I went with the BBB Industries, is because they are atleast made in Mexico, according to the information I found, and to me that sounds better than China. We will see, they have a pretty good reputation overall though.
