Hey guys, Crispy, this one's probably for you.

First off... I searched for this... I got zero results... so maybe this was asked more than 90 days ago and its gone now.

How do you remove the silver (99-00) part of the center console? I found the two screws beneath the ashtray... and I figured out who to pop the shifter skirt off (MTX)... but it still won't budge... the only other screws I see are in the bottom of the cargo on the console, but do I have to remove the entire console to get that silver peice?

Thanks in advance.

I assume that you just want to paint part of your console...??? sorta like this? ---- if so this is how I removed Da Sack's console area....

remove the 2 screws behind the ashtray area.... pry up the plate around the cup spiller.... remove the 2 bolts... and remove the entire cup spiller... there are 2 copper clips there... carefully pry them up and out... remove your shifter boot and knob.... take a thin scewdriver and pry that area up and out... you need to carefully break some plastic welds back by the cig lighter and back by your armrest... unhook the cig lighter from behind and the piece should all come out.... mask off your e-brake boot and paint...

Thanks Crispy, you're help is appreciated. I'm a bit scared to start cracking plastic, but I'll try tomorrow. I had already accidentally cracked one side (though its not a clean break, but oh well. Hey, does the ash tray holder come out with the console or no? Also, do you have pictures of your new 2001 console... the post was deleted from Group Buys, and I'm considering getting the new one... if I do, I may not bother painting this one.

yeah once you pry around the ashtray area you will have a piece that you will have to put back into the console before you screw it back down.... as far as the 01 console I have no plans on painting it as well.... there really isn't alot you can paint on it.... The console is a great buy though.... let me know if you need the part numbers...

Do you have a picture of where the console meets the ashtray/radio area? The whole reason I want to paint the console I have is because it looks like the silver part continues down the console. If the 2001 console doesn't have that (and I don't think it does) it would save me some time... but then again... isn't it like $200? hmmm... I'll put it on my Christmas list. :)

Thanks again Crispy!

I don't really recommend it unless you are prepared for the worst if you snap your over drive wires..... disconnecing the shifter assembly is pretty damn hard.... you need someone with very small hands and patience... We had to remove mine to replace my console and I ended up breaking the black slider portion of the shifter mechanism... sometimes I find it very difficult to shift out of park or into park.... maybe someone else can give you some decent tips on it... sorry

thanks crispy,
I think I might get a guy at the ford garage to pull it out for me over the winter. I am hopefully going to get as much of my interior painted metallic blue and white as possible. Then I can get my blue reverse indiglo gauges and interior neons put in..

I'm with Crispy on this one, I removed my consol on the ATX, ruined Overdrive in the process. I went back to the ford dealer after it was all painted and I had to get an entirely new shifter because they can't just place those wires back in it. I definitely do not recommend taking out the consol for automatics. But my end result came out great.

You know... I never did get my console apart like how Zman has his... it just wouldn't budge anywhere on it...

Crispy, maybe on Sunday if you go, you can give me a hand... there's gotta be something I'm missing.

I recently took my dash out to paint and had the same problem. That silver peice just doesn't want to come out. What you have to do is take the stero out. The last two screws that hold that peice in are above the stero. Take it out and undo the last screw and the peice just slides off.
