I recently bought a Bluetooth fm transmitter so I can play music from my phone on my stock radio but I ran across an issue. The transmitter works great but the cigarette lighter is not switched power and remains on. I don’t want to have to unplug the adapter every time I get out of the car. What’s the easiest way to convert the port to switched power? I’m open to suggestions, thanks!

Really shouldn’t be an issue; they don’t draw that much current. Unless you park it for a month at a time or something. Then you can just unplug it.

The radio power supply would be the most logical off the top of my head, but yeah, it really shouldn't be a major issue.
If I were going to the trouble of pulling that stuff out to work on the wiring, I would probably just hardwire the device behind the dash somewhere out of sight instead of rewiring the socket.

If I were going to the trouble I'd just replace the radio with a bluetooth head unit, they're like $30 for the low end ones that'll play music from your phone, hands free calling tends to be more expensive though.

Well...yeah there's that too. I guess I figured if someone is using an FM transmitter than they're probably trying to retain the stock radio

At the point of retaining the stock radio, couldn't you also tap into it to add a 3.5mm connection? That would be a drastic improvement over an radio adapter without any cosmetic change. Most Bluetooth does enough damage to audio quality without help.

Yeah, I think those transmitters are garbage. I've seen what appears to be a nearly identical OEM radio that includes the aux jack on ebay. I sort of feel like maybe B3nn3tt uses one?

What I really hate about those transmitters is when you're driving down the road listening to the radio and some guy passes you watching porn on one. Or ****ty music.
