So I decided that I need a cap. How do I choose one. I've been told a 1f would be fine. I have an Alpine mono amp pulling 300 rms. peak is 1000w or less.
I was searching E-bay and find a bunch of different models. Besides a digital read out is there really any differance between all the different models? Could I go to radio shack and get a bargin model? I don't need the flashy exterior. I don't do shows or anything. just need to stop my lights from dimming.

rule of thumb is:
for every 1000 W or below, you need 1 farad capacitor.
so, in your case, you will need just one 1 farad cap...

digital readouts are really nice, but it is not necessary.
and you do get what you pay for.. go for RF, Memphis, Monster or other name brand.... expect to pay around 100 dollars.

Don't go to radio shack you'll get majorly ripped off. I'm using a Lightning Audio 1F cap and it works great! Got it for $59.99. I think the digital readout ones go for $79.99

Look on www.thezeb.com or ebay

nostly you can use any cap, and although companies say that theirs is made better, its mostly BS. if a cap is a 1 farad cap its a 1 farad cap. there may be small differences, but you shouldnt need to worry. find a cap you like the look of and go for it.

Actually i've found that rule of thumb to be more like 500watts or less per 1 farad cap.. just my personal experience... cuz i was running almost a full 1800 watts in my old system with 2 VooDoo 1 farad caps...(they kick ass btw) and my lights still dimmed a decnt amount.. so not being an ass or what not just passing on my personal exp... hope this helps.

yes a month old but, good topic.
I have a Memphis 1100D and a Memphis 3004 (75x4) and I have 2 - 1 farad caps. If I put on some hard knocking tunes in like 15 -20 mins I can see the lights dim just a tad. When I add my 2nd amp 1500D I am thinking of adding a second battery and another cap. At the moment I am still running stock alt and batt. Had a system in for almost two years, switched to this setup back in FEB.
