Ok I'm new to the list and I have been trying to sort through all the different topics and other web sites to find what performance upgrades can be made to my stock 01 with ATX. Also is there a way to tell the difference between the sport and non-sport? I know that I'm probably going to get a lot of flames for posting this but it is a risk that I'm willing to take for my cars sake.

Barring tranny upgrades that the MTXers have, you can put the same upgrades on your ATX as well. Ranging from intakes to exhausts, its all fair game.

So i can put chips, turbos, cold air? What is a good starting point with some cheap upgrades that can give me a little bit of a performance boost? I have read that the turbonators are good and I have also read that they are bad. Would that be a good start? From what I have read it doesn't take a lot of modifaction and by no means am I mechanic. I was looking for some good beginner stuff.

A chip is a good add-on for an automatic. But otherwise, yeah, like George said, anything for a manual tranny car will work for an automatic, except for like an upgraded clutch, which you cannot use. Other than that, the sky's the limit. The autos will just always be behind the manuals with identical mods.

This has probably been discussed before, but a good start would be a cat-back exhaust, cold air intake and a custom programmed chip. A performance chip is probably the best mod for an atx car, but I'd recommend you get this after you've completed the basics like headers, exhaust and cold air intake simply because a chip like ADC offers will be custom programmed to run with existing modifications. You wouldn't want to be sending your chip back and forth getting it reprogrammed after every mod as it's not exactly cheap. Hope this helps, good luck modding.

i will save you alot of time and shame. turbonators= bad move for any car owner
also with the sports pac. your rev limit is higher and your top speed is raised

WRONG - the rev limiter is the same on sports package.

There is no SET top speed on the sports package; depends on drag and RPM's.

Level 10 is wasted on this transmission. an Atx cougar owner who dumped tons of money into his atx tranny from level 10 still gets beaten by mtx coug owners.......put that money somewhere else...forced induction perhaps?

the best way to do it, imo, is cai, headers and exhaust, svt uim,tb then chip. then internals if you want to go that way, torque converter cams. if you get the chip first it will have to be reburnt to accomidate the rest of the mods not yet done. and as of yet there is no turbo/sc for the atx

well even if we did get a sweet set-up for the ATX, you would have to be declared officially insane. Spending countless nights helping DanG with his turbo set-up on a MTX and they're were fitment issues up the Wazoo even then. Imagine a transmission much larger, with basically no where for the down pipe, up pipe, wastegate, the turbo, AND intercooler. Even if you went with a conventional front mount I would still imagine a bunch of pipping sticking through the hood. If it can be done more power to the person but all I know is if you imagine taking on a project like this and having a kit fabbed, you might wanna invest in a straight jacket because you will need it.

The best mod for your ATX? Switch it to an MTX. You will be MUCH happier.
