this might apply to dom more than anyone else since he has a vanity plate, but does anyone know if there is a way to check online if a particular plate is in use or not? thanx...

not that I know of. What you can do is call the ministry (I think it's 1-800-AUTO-PL8 - but I'm not positive). They can look it up for you and will let you know if it's available or not. If it's good to go, you can order it right away! That's what I did anyway!
