You know that's really odd. The "standard" alternator actually mounts to a bracket on the engine.... the alternator pictured, seems to have the bracket integrated into the housing itself as that's where the holes would end up.... Could Ford of possibly changed the design late in the last runs of Cougars? If that's the case, the next question, is do you really need an alternator, as you would have something that is of a different design, and possibly better. Ford doesn't change a design because it feels like it. It will only do so when it has to.
