I'm noticing the same hesitation on acceleration (power lose due to the A/C compressor running).
Strange thing, my temperature dial is at the coolest but the other dial is not at the A/C or MAX A/C position.
(and even when the temperature dial is at the warmest)

Question: I think my A/C compressor is always running. Is this a cougar feature? Is it normal?

the AC compressor will run in the AC, MAX AC, and also in the DEFROST mode. other than that, it shouldnt.

...And Defrost! That's a good thing to know.
Probably overlooked that feature in the book.
I'm always driving with the Defrost/Ground mode.
