Ok, so while looking at my car after the springs were installed my friend gasped at the small ass throttle body and UIM. He suggested that they take measurements and cast me a new one, now that would take some work but is possible. My question to you is does the 3L LIM work with the 2.5L heads? I have not heard of anyone doing it, that I know of. Should I have him cast me a new LIM and UIM then borrow a bigger throttle from something else? or would I have better luck with finding a 3L UIM and LIM and TB from a yard. Thanks

Casting a brand new manifold and throttle body? Um, IF that is really the option then um...we need to talk cuz I am totally down. (not that I buy it for a minute...the cost would be rediculous to build a whole new manifold and especially TB) In reality; the 3.0 does fit and the only issue is IAC clearance with the hood; you have to relocate it or dent the hood.

Dont know ya well enough for the big ol BS flag but please elaborate. Good question though- more answers can be found on the swap somewhere here on neco.

PM Andy (Bennett9000), he's already done some 3L upper research, and in fact has a 3L upper and TB already, for some ridiculously low price from the U-Wrench It junk yard.

Or maybe Andy will reply here :)

 Now I've done to much research and confused myself. Please Andy help. Ok, I found a oval ported 3L LIM, are all of them oval ported? I'd rather not deal with the CEL all the time of having no secondaries. How bad does no secondaries suck?

Any idea where I could find a LIM with secondaries? There's one on CEG without the secondary rod it's only 20 bills, but I don't know what the hell that means? could I replace it with my 2.5 rod??

Also I found a plastic 3.0L UIM, I didn't know they made them in plastic? Is this good/bad, buy/don't buy. It seems like it would melt/be a total POS.

Please forgive my ignorance, I did search and only got more confused.

The plastic model, while it would be nice for weight/ heat transfer, will not work. There is a specific year that works (year range). Running your car without the secondary butterflies will get you no low end torque. The car will probably run like poop below 3-4K rpm. I know this because I had secondaries that were stuck open due to a bad IMRC for about 6 months and cold idle was horrible(nearly stalling) and low end was non existant. You can test this for yourself though if you want- just tie open the secondaries and drive around.

Well, time to look at local junk yards......or pull one off a car that comes into work  ok, now my other question which I really wanna know is

Any idea where I could find a LIM with secondaries? There's one on CEG without the secondary rod it's only 20 bills, but I don't know what the hell that means? could I replace it with my 2.5 rod??
Yea, so is it possible to switch the rod? I don't really know what that might entail, but I have a feeling it's a larger bore and just isn't possible, someone please put me out of my ignorance.

AFAIK, the 3.0LIM and the 2000+ 2.5LIM are both the same SVT-spec manifold.

The plastic UIM is NOT usable.

My 3.0L UIM came from a 96 Taurus.

Some 96 Taurii had the 3.0 Vulcan V6, not the Duratec V6. Obviously, the Vulcan parts are useless.

Hope this helps everyone.

ha ha, after about 30 phone calls I managed to find something of interest......I'll let you know how it goes, but first gonna do some TB, and secondary optimization. I hope to get it in this weekend, but I gotta make a order for a custom CAI, so time to measure.....take a gander.

EDIT* Blue injectors......weird. Ok, I'm planning on ditching those injectors and putting my 17's in......that's a return style fuel rail correct? If you think I should, for some crazy reason, leave the 19's in someone tell me. but I'm not planning on getting a Chip and a MAF so that's why I'm thinking 17's.

Look at those secondaries just waiting for some fine tuning and shorter screws!

Just remember the list of other parts needed to make this work. And also the amount of time needed. I wanted to do this as well as RacerX but the time allowance and other parts right now havent worked out. Speaking of, Andy have you found another 3L yet :)?

Ok, I will poke my head in here. As for doing the 3L UIM and LIM and TB combo. there is ONE, I reapeat ONE car that I know of that is using the entire 3L manifolds and it took A TON and I mean A ****LOAD of work to make the car Idle. The IAC has been relocated, the EGR tuibe is custom made and there has been many many other tweaks made to get it to idle and it still isnt right.

Yep - the EGR thing is all that's stopping me. I'm going to get a 2.5 EGR from the yard to cut up, so if I can't get it to stabilize, I'll still have the proper, INTACT 2.5 EGR to replace the old UIM.

When I get the time and the other EGR, I'm going to give it a shot.

I got a 3.0 EGR tube, wondering if I could just drop the whole thing in place of my 2.5 tube  I'm also thinking of running EGRless....but would rather not b/c of emissions. I need to get some sort of an intake together before I can drive this thing, so it might be crude pvc at first.

RACERX Why is it so much of a problem getting it to idle? shouldnt the IACV take care of that? It shouldnt be to hard to re-locate. Also, I'm gonna run around tomorrow and get countersunk screws for my TB, and secondaries. Some files will help too. Also gonna try to scrounge up some UIM and LIM bolts, I have some but not all (it was sorta in a pile) Gonna call up Bill Jenkins too he might be able to help.

Anyone know about blue injectors?? They'll probably be for sale shortly. Cleaning this sucks my left, and I'm getting high from the fumes :smoke-g:

DAMNIT......ok, well it's not the biggest of deals, but I mannaged to forget to pick up the Throttle Bracket. :banghead: I called them and they still have the pile on the floor. I'm headed back tomorrow to look for it. If I don't find it I priced one from ford the 3.0 was 150.......wtf......the svt one was around 50 is that right???? that's still about as much as I paid for both manifolds but am guessing I need it badly.

Is it possible to rig your 2.5 bracket to fit on the 3.0?? I really doubt it but it doen't hurt to ask. Also, I'm still not sure if I need the SVT throttle cable, it appears that the one I have will work......any imput is appreciated on that too.

The 3.0 Fuel rail will not work because of the location of the imput/return and the fuel pressure sender, so I will have to swap it with my 2.5 rail. I also mannaged to find some perfect countersunk screws for the secondaries  their M3 6mm if anyone wants to know. I'll get pictures when I get it all clean, I'm on my 3rd can of intake cleaner now. Still some work before this gets done, still shooting for this weekend but it might take a bit of work.

Throttle linkage on the 3.0 TB is on the opposite side as the 2.5. The bracket won't go.

Hopefully we don't need new cables, too...

duh, I knew that. I went back to the yard today and looked through 3 piles of trash, then compared to another 3L which they had just sitting there begging me to buy. I finally found it  yea, so now I gotta check to see if I have the right cable then back to more cleaning.

Uhhh, how do you know if it's the right cable.....I'm gonna hold up my new TB and old TB and see if I can tell. I don't really wanna spend the 50 bills for the cable then have to run the damn thing. Any imput is appreciated again. For some reason I can't seem to do a mod with out any help from others :flushed: <-- that's supposed to be embarrased
