Re: 225/45/18's?
I have 225/40/18 as well and a set of BG springs (actually we think they are the contour version wich has a deeper drop, and thus explains my low ass car.) Anyways I do occasionally rub on the inner fender by the front sub frame. This is only on a full lock turn going down hill.
A 225/45/18 will simply be a taller tire and not a wider one. You will have more side wall. The size difference will be 11.25mm or 0.44in. So your car will actually lift up 0.44 in from the ground and will need that much extra clearance before hitting the plastic fender liner. So depending on how much of a drop will determine if they will work. With BGs i would say prob not, with any other I would say possibly. What type of a drop are you looking at?

Re: 225/45/18's?
since you can adjust your ride height then you will be fine, like I said its only taller not wider. Im not sure why you would want to change size though.
And it will mess up your speedometer reading, more than the current tires do.
