225/45/16 or 225/50/16

I am looking to buy new tires for my stock rims and have found there is a limted selection of 215's so I am considering 225? What is the prefered thickness, 45 or 50? Also, does anyone have experience on how the 225 will fit? What about 205? Thanks!

Chuck

Re: 225/45/16 or 225/50/16

225/50/16 is the generally accepted stock alternative. I get slight rubbing at full lock, but they are race tires which are really closer to a 235 width.

Thanks, I'm looking at either the Khumo AST or ASX, Not sure what the main difference is, but the price is about $15 different per tire.

If you look at the comparisons on Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels , the ASX is general rated higher than the AST, significantly so in winter categories. I have the ASX on my Lincoln and have generally been pretty happy with them. I have no experience with the AST though.

They were about $25-30 difference. (225 was cheaper). I was looking to save about $120 if I could.

Re: 225/45/16 or 225/50/16

I have 225/50R16 Kumho ASX tires and am happy with them. I am lowered and only rub once and a while when turning all the way. The grip is slightly less than the stock tires but perform good in the snow. All around it's a good tire.

Re: 225/45/16 or 225/50/16

Kumho Ecsta ASX

Kuhmo ASX 225/50/16 This is what I have been runing for last year, I personally love them. The price is good and they run great all year round, snow and all. My car is low as **** and I only slightly rub on a full lock turn going down hill. The 225's fell even more solid on the road then the 215's which I had to.

I just got 18s a few weeks ago, so now im running on the rubber that was on them, but when it runs out im getting kuhmos again.

If you drive your car everyday, dont expect them to last more 1.5-2 years, especially if you drive hard.

Re: 225/45/16 or 225/50/16

Check out Tirerack.com. They were $64 for the AST and $ 79 for the ASX in 225/50/16
