I'm guessing the rotors wore down so thin that you pushed the brakes and it pushed through the last slight bit of metal?

But there was a point of time, maybe a week or so (on already really scraped up rotors), where whenever I reversed and went to the hit the brakes the car would shake vigorously, similar to the feeling of physically grinding the car along something.
