Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

The manufacturer of the kit had to vacate their premises but were last heard of looking for new ones. However even if they don't resurface, there was talk of the rights and moulds for the kit being sold to another interested party, so I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of the kit hopefully.

As for the grille surrounds which are suddenly a hot topic here (!) they are actually part of the moulds. The indent around them is part of the mould, and they are then painted with aluminium effect paint called 'silver glass' or something, so they appear separate but aren't available separately. The kit didn't used to have these but they modified it as they liked my idea so much to match the concept's grille surrounds The upper aluminium strip between the headlights is just a separate part to the kit, available from the makers.

As for the engine, it is as yet unmodified. The V6 is such a gorgeous beast to drive anyway that I have yet to feel any need to replace it with a 3.0, however if the engine ever conks out that will have to happen! For now it is a lovely 2.5 Auto with Cruise Control and set to 'S' mode at all times

Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

...don't know if you have read this Mercury Cougar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia there is a bit in the seventh generation about the proposed engine for the cougar S. I thought you might be interested. G.

Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

Thanks however the bit I think you refer to is a different 'Cougar S' which was going to look a lot like the standard Cougar. The 'Cougar S Concept' is a different beast, and the info on the engine is here: For Sale - 1999 Mercury Cougar S Concept Car

The nice thing about the aerodynamic improvements of the S kit and wider wheel base is that I notice increased performance even without modding the engine.

Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

Had the Cougar S been put into production, it would have been a dream come true for "tuners and tweakers." The Cougar S is powered by a modified modular 24 valve V-6 Duratec prototype engine. This strong breathing engine at 3.0 liters is a half liter larger than the production counterpart. It is fed by a modified intake system that feeds cold air through a functional scoop at the base of the wind screen. With available SVT modifications, the motor is capable of over 400 horsepower. ...can't wait to see that...G.

Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

The production cougar S was going to have a 2.5L SVT engine.
The concept S, although Ford claimed it was an AWD 3L, underneath, it was nothing but a stock FWD 2.5.

Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

The least-difficult conversion parts would come from a Jag X-type AWD.

Re: My 'Cougar S' concept replica

Who knows. The Jag Xtype uses a MTX75 with an extra attachment next to the Diff Housing to send power to the rear wheels... so you probably wont be able to use the stock right-side axle. The rear suspension would need to be completely replaced with the Jag suspension. Check with Blackcoog, he's done some research into this.
