turning things off

so I know the xcal is capable of turning things off, where they will register as Not Applicable on a scan tool, such as emmisions sensors.

is there a list of things I can turn off.

basically I need to do my homework on deadpanning sensors to the ECU.

specifically,
seatbelts, door ajars, trunk ajar, bulb failures, HVAC, airbags, anything not critical for running the car.

Re: turning things off

Curiosity question - Does all of that even go through the ECU? I wouldn't think you'd need to door ajar signals going through ECU, or even seat belt warnings, as that could be something simpler in the instrument cluster.

I'd give the wiring diagram a quick scan if I wasn't sitting at my desk at work. Either way, interesting question and a good thing to sticky once it's answered.

Re: turning things off

I had the same problem, but more with transmision codes thrown after my swap. The guys at brenspeed said that they couldn't eliminate those codes, so I'm not sure about these.

Re: turning things off

Some arent going to go directly to ECU, will goto other computers thats will then goto ECU. Some I would assume you could not turn off you would have to put in resistors or hard wire connections.

Re: turning things off

The tranny is basically defined by one scalar value, trans_type. My manual cougar's pcm has transmission pressure and torque maps, shifting times, etc defined, but pcm doesn't read those values when it has trans_type set to manual.

From that list, pcm only knows and controls the AC clutch. "anything not critical for running the car" = not pcm related circuits (mostly).

Things that you can turn off are all somehow directly connected to the engine (egr, imrc, ...etc) or things needed to run the engine (cooling fans and fuel pump for example). Pcm doesn't have information about your airbags, seat belts, status of your windscreen wipers, etc.

Dash warning lights are controlled by a few modules together. Remote locking, alarm and double locking are controlled by one module.

ps. Some of the aux warning or control modules can be read and tested with ford tools via the obdii plug. These few modules use different contacts in the connector and doesn't share the real obdii bus or protocol.

Re: turning things off

So how would I then change my trans type in the ecu, without swapping in a real MTX ecu?
