jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
Does anyone here have any experience with jet chips?
I have on in my 00 v6 atx, it has the part number for the 02 v6 atx, i got it real cheap from someone who wrecked their car. The car runs fine 99% of the time, the only exceptions are they very first time I hit the gas in morning theres a little lag getting into first gear, and the other day i was feelin frisky and opened it up on the highway I was going about 105-110 and it lagged for a little then felt like it shifted and kept speeding up. I have had it in there off and on now for over a year and the car runs fine. I took it out for a while when my fuel pump died, I thought it was the chip and took it out. I lost it in my move and found it a few weeks ago and put it back in. I run 93 octane like it says in the instructions. My real question is: IS there a difference between the factory tunes from 00 to 02?

Re: jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
yes, the fuel system in the engine...
I belive ur 00 atx has return style where it returns fuel to the fuel pump and an 01 has returnless style where it doesn't return to the fuel at all. That can play a very important part on ur chip.. it might not be set up for what u are suppose to be running at... ooh.. and please don't kill yourself doing such speeds ![]()

Cougars changed from return to returnless in May of 99, so 2000s are returnless, just like 2002s. However, I have no idea if the chip will work...lol |

Re: jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
i most deffinitly have a returnless because my fuel pump went and was covered by the recall.
And i said i was feelin frisky that morning, open divided interstate nothin but trees and corn around, went from 75 to 115 then slowed down and got off the highway. I was passing a bunch of cars so I could get over to get off for work. My cougar has hit 130 ( then there was traffic so I had to slow down) and was rock soild. The suspention, tires, and brakes are not stock. So im good dont worry about me killin myself, this isnt an everyday thing. Jet for some reason has a different part number for 99,00,01,02 which leads me to belive there may be a difference. But The car runs fine except those 2 instances. I know we have some hardcore tuners here. Is there a difference in the factory tune from 00 to 02?

There probably are small differences between the tunes, as there are small differences in the engines. The 00 engine has slightly more displacement, and the 02 engine has slightly more compression. As well you just might have two more years of data at Ford that had them tweaking things.
And there may be differences in the sensors on the ATX too, but I don't recall off the top of my head.

Re: jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
Interesting. i was totaly unaware of the displacement and compression changes.. I have the updated "bang shift fix" sensor so that should help my any trans sensor changes..

Re: jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been in 99 that it changed... possibly at the same time as the return/returnless change. Should have been the same time they started using the SVT spec LIM.
They dropped a few CCs of displacement to get it just under 2500 CCs, and bumped the compression a tad to keep the HP/TQ the same. Had something to do with taxes in Europe on engines larger than 2.5L.

Re: jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
I have a special edition, so its a late 00. I have 99-00 and 01-02 interior parts from the factory. So i do belive I have the svt spec LIM. Which if your right means that I also have the slightly lower displacement with the higher compression. So its looking more and more like the engines are identical like I thought. Perhaps ford was just playing with the computers tune a little bit year to year then. Doesnt seem like its any thing huge though. It runs good and get about 23mpg on a mix of city and highway. I have one of those pretty much useless narrow band A/F gauges. Its reading the same as it always did.
The only noticable thing is, like I said before, when i hit the gas the first time in the morning, theres a delay before it revs or shifts into 1st. Might just be that the engines not warmed up yet.

you know thinking about what you are saying about the slowness, is that with respect to the downshift after you have been cruising?? or just as you change into drive and accelerate off from a start... the MPV is slow as when you first take off in the morning when the transmission fluid is cold. Have you tried idling in neutral for 30 seconds first then see what she does....

Re: jet chip and tune diff from 00 to 02?
At 8 am when i leave for work in the mornin. My parking lot is a hill, so I coast out of my spot down to the stop sign. At the sign is a slight hill going up, when i hit the gas, nohtin really happens for like 1-2 sec then it drives normal. Im very gently hitting the gas to pull away from the sign ( its 15mph speed limit there ).
It might just be that its cold. Its ideling for a few seconds beofre i drive though. But not to long. Like i dont turn the key and go instantly. I Start the car then buckle up and turn on the radio ect, then go. I just dont rember it happening it before I had the chip in it. The chip is supposed to effect the shift points, Quote:
It hasnt been any colder than 70deg F for months now, so its not like its real cold.
