Need timing advance or retard... or am I off

This warm weather has done a strange thing to my car. I went from getting 19 mpg (on a good day) to getting 21+ mpg. No driving changes have been made.

My car also wants to stall out every once in a while now when I let off gas and push in clutch. The revs drop a little to low and it chokes a bit. I beleive the cool air from before was keeping the revs a little higher and now its reading warmer air it wants to stay a little lower. It still idles at `850-900 in warm and cold weather (after car warmed up a minute).

The temp has gone from low to first notch to staying in center.....thank god. I didn't run a t-stat all winter since I tried two and both were bad and got tired of replacing coolant and messing around with it and got busy and didn't feel like freezing my ass off in the cold anymore.

Opinions on timing issues?

first you need a t-stat so the engine is operating at proper temp.

Stalling out, check your IAC valve make sure it's clean.

Re: Need timing advance or retard... or am I off

I had the exact problem with my car, and it ended up being the IAC.

Re: Need timing advance or retard... or am I off

The temps are fine in warm weather... I'm gonna leave the t-stat out till fall. I put two in it before and kept getting too hot...stant 170 from advance. I froze my ass off all winter.

I'll give the IAC a try this weekend.

I forgot to mention I still don't have a tune, which is why I was thinking it could use a timing adjustment.

yeah, I understand that, but 1, you need a thermostat, trust me on this. Stock temp range is fine to use or maybe as low as 185. Then you need to change your fan on/of times and have them set for both fans coming on instead of the main fan and then the secondary fan at ummm 219*f I think.

Timing issues?? You need to have access to the base timing map and from what I read in your stats you have no access. First diagnose the vehicle by checking everything Gaskets, coolant levels, Thermastat, intake might need cleaning, etc.

Your car will use more gas during cold temperatures so using less gas is normal in the warmer weather

You should install a t-stat though

Timing issues???
