J2534 Flash cable

I've been scratching about for an alternative to an SCT. I found this..http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mongo...spagenameZWD1V Has anyone any experience or knowledge of which programs work with this cable. It maybe possible to loan these to install turbo/supercharger remaps, for members without SCT's and those who have no recurring need for one......i found this thread if it helps any.http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/prin...hp?t=26739...G.

Lightbulb Re: J2534 Flash cable

According to the documentation from the "Mongoose" site it is nothing more the a simple passthrough cable. For a stupidly high amount of $300!!!

It does not even come with any true software. (some basic OBD-II junk) For an "additional charge" they can supply software that datalogs ONLY 90 OBD-II parameters and reads codes. (i.e. RIP-OFF!!!)

Alex Pepper's OBD-II setup is ~$100 and can datalog every OBD-II parameter as well as all manufacturer enhanced log in, run self tests, driving cycle tests, et cetera.

You will notice that with this $300 cable you still can not program or flash the PCM. You need specific software to do that. When you pay for the SCT PRP half of what you pay for is this software you must have to do the job.

An X-Cal is ~$300 and does far more then this $300 pass cable. If you look on the net you can find OBD-II cables for much less then $300 and even instructions to build your own for far less.

Re: J2534 Flash cable

Thanks for your replies guys. I'm not about to hand over $300 for that cable or loads of cash for something I can do myself. I've seen the kits and free datalogging programs...it's the software to flash, the maps and the 'one vehicle flashers' (unless the pcm scheme worked) that tie you in, as you pointed out. Does anyone know of open source programs or shareware on the net ?...G.
