Dyno Pulls with an ATX

Alright, i went to a very reputable local tuning shop in order to get some more insight on tuning. Firts things first i talked to one guy who was rather dumb. I told him i needed a SCT xcal 2 to calibrate and tune my mercury cougar. He said they don't support them. I insisted that they do and finally was able to confirm this with there tuning tech(the smart one). Now when i asked how to tune the atx they said they would just do some data logging. He tried to explain why an atx couldn't do pulls but i was confused as all hell . Will someone please give me the reason why i couldn't do i dyno pull with my atx. in some simplier terms.

Re: Dyno Pulls with an ATX

I have heard that some FWD's can't be dyno'd at some shops due to concerns with alignments being off (as an excuse).....but have NEVER heard anyone say they can't dyno an automatic.

be thankful they didn't try to reset the computer lol....

EDIT: Tell them you want to adjust the shift points and add a few degrees of timing....that might help

Re: Dyno Pulls with an ATX

that could be true if they use rollers, but if they tie it down properly it should be an issue. where bensenvil had his done they use portable packs that bolt right to the hubs

Re: Dyno Pulls with an ATX

Mine has been on a dyno several times. Shouldn't be a problem for you. The guy just doesn't know what hes talking about probably.

Re: Dyno Pulls with an ATX

They are not tuners. They are Hacks.
All tuning is the same with any car regardless of ECU interface, Transmission, NA, Turbo, Supercharged, or number of Cylinders. What makes them soo good?? because they use set numbers from the company??
In Naperville there is a shop called GRD performence they attach the hub to get real power numbers down.

Re: Dyno Pulls with an ATX

ok first of all, if this shop is confused on how to even get your car onto the dyno, do you really want them reprogramming your engine???!!?!

stop for a minute and think... and walk away.

Wise words indeed. Just walk away if they don't know how to do it, find someone who knows what they are doing.
