I would not do that if I were you though. I would just get an ecu and wiring harness from a cougar as you mentioned and then wire it up in your car. No more work than an aftermarket ecu and already has the correct parameters for a 2.5L duratec engine.

If you can get it the SVT Contour ecu/pcm is the best one to get IF you aren't going to run a chip. If you run a chip or flash the pcm with a new tune then get the standard Cougar/Contour/Mystique ecu/pcm.

I don't know the answer on the sensor waveforms that could be used for the aftermarket ECU but I suspect you could just hook up an oscilloscope and see what it looks like.

I'd definitely blow all that off and use a Ford PCM and just chip/flash it.
Thanks again for that info, made me do some more investigations, and came out the other end with the wonderful news that the MPV has the EECV PCM, which I understand is the same as the one in the cougars (makes sense).

Edit to move question to new thread!!!

Becareful you are not taking USDM vehicle specs and "assuming" your Australian DM MPV is the same. Many Ford cars outside the US still use EEC-IV even though USDM Ford cars went to EEC-V around the 1996 model year.

Had been told that the PCM in the MPV was a proprietry mazda p-tech, but apparently that was for the 3.0l cars, tracked down the location of my PCM in the right hand drive and it had the name EEC-V on the label, so will be contacting a local group (on 15km away) that deal in the SCT chips to see what can be done. Has been soooooo helpful on the forum. Thanks guys.

Re: tuning with/or out secondaries

is there anyone that has tuned with the xcal for the removal of the secondaries, in a couple months when i am able to drive my car I want to correctly tune the car. I am planning on getting the PRP and 24lb injectors.

Re: tuning with/or out secondaries

There is only a couple of us running without secondaries. I haven't tuned mine yet since the holidays are coming up and I'm getting all my shopping done now. Not to mention my alternator cut out on me a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping to get it done in December and will be requesting a copy of my tune to save on my computer. If you still need info then I'd gladly send it to you. What ecu code will your PRP be programed to?

Yeah, right bout now with both out of production and starting to look a tad aged...they don't look much different.

'cept the cougar has the same power as the base contour but weighs significantly more... lol
It even weighs a bit more than an SVT.
