It's easier than changing the engine oil.
Loosen the fill plug (on the front side of the trans case, about halfway up, pointing towards the radiator; takes a hex-head, not sure of the size).
Position pan under the trans, and remove drain plug (on the bottom of the case, pointing towards the engine block; takes the same hex-head).
Re-install drain plug.
Remove fill plug.
Fill till it spills (a little less than 3 quarts) and re-install fill plug. You'll need a tube and a funnel, as you can't get the oil bottle anywhere near the fill hole.
You're done.

Cant explain it any better than that.
But make sure you do as Bennet said, loosen the fill plug before you drain the oil, that way your not stuck with a dry trans and a fill plug that wont come out.
also, DO NOT use the 75w90. that is way to thick for the MTX75. search around here for the recommended fluids.

Right, it has been discussed in several threads. Royal Purple SynchroMax is generally-accepted as one of the correct fluids.

Capaldi Racing used Ford XT-5 iirc. Ford worked with Leo in the development of the XT-5 fluid. Some call it "Honey fluid" since it very much looks like honey... It is a true manual transaxle fluid which I tend to believe in, that said it is NOT heavy fluid like used in older manuals. We also used Pennzoil Syncromesh with some success. I personally prefer Mobil 1 ATF. The "cocktail" of a half bottle of Ford Friction modifier is vaunted by some... I personally don't think it's a good idea. If you have a aftermarket diff you should not use friction modifier.
Also, a suction gun makes the job about 10 times easier... Ive done it both ways and will never use a funnel again. Harbor Freight has them for under $10 iirc.
Missing the old days...
I was here (or on ezboard rather) when all you could do to a Cougar was a KKM intake and a Borla.
i finally got around to changing the fluid and there is a 100 percent improvement from the old fluid. I used the offical ford tranny oil for the cougar (the name is slipping me). It goes into gear quicker and without slippage.
