A good idea to do the fluid flush?

I have a 99 V6 with CD4E.

My tranny got overheated yesterday. When I was driving 70mph, under 93 degree, the "!" on the dash flashed. I pulled over, cooled for about 10 minutes, it went good again. On the way back, 60mph under 85 degree, everything is ok.

Looks like, I have some tiny leaking when the car is running hot, but seals itself when cooling down. Is it a good idea to do the trasmission fluid flush and change the gasket? I got 97k mileage on this tranny. Maybe too old to do it?

Should have done a few thus far. Damage has been done...too late for a fluid change.

take a sample of the fluid and splash it on white paper. if its black then DO NOT service the fluid. you can however drain a quart and add lucas

Like a previous poster said the damage has been done, the tranny should have been flushed in the past. Probably the best thing is to have them drop the pan, replace the filter & just change the fluid that comes out, rather than a full flush.

No good. The filter on the CD4e is internal. When my uncle flushed his Mystique he asked about it, and the only way to do it is have them run the fluid through the transmission backwards. Therefore forcing the debris out of the filter.

Is that basicly what a flush and fill is? Or am I mistaken?

Re: A good idea to do the fluid flush?

That is indeed what most places do... The only problem is that w/ dirty fluid junk can be forced through passages in the trans the it normally wouldn't. I didn't know you can't get the the filter in the CD4E though.

There are really 3 ways of changing fluid:
Drop pan, doesn't change all of the fluid though.
Power Flush & fill, not the best option if the fluid is bad.
The third is you take off one of the trans cooler lines & pop some fuses so the car won't start. Crank the car to push out the old fluid while adding new fluid to keep it topped off. Keep going until new fluid comes out.
