Need a new clutch?

I can't really tell, it doesn't seem to have any problems except for very high rpm's. This is my first MTX car though, so i may just be driving it wrong . Anyway, when i'm getting on to the high way, i like to punch it a bit since this is the only time that kind of fun stuff is legal So when i hit about 5k or more rpm's, if i get off the clutch too quick, i'll hear this strange "chirp", my rpm's will drop, and the car seems to lose that momentum you work to gain by getting the rpm's up that high. So is this "chirp" my stock clutch slipping? If so, anyone know where i can get the SVT clutch? I think i'll add that to my list of things to get for my car if it will solve this problem.

oh, and on a side note, i can do this sort of stuff without causing the chirp in my friends 07 V6 Mustang, so i'm guessing mine is just not a strong enough clutch to handle that kind of stuff

Re: Need a new clutch?

well if you engage the clutch to fast your going to loose rpm, and you loose rpm when you shift anyway ... the chip might be the clutch, but it could also be the accessory drive belt slipping. I would start there and check the belt and tensioner out for wear and replace as needed.

Re: Need a new clutch?

x2 for serpentine belt.

Put a cog belt on it. That should fix the noise.

but its only after i shift and if i pop the clutch too fast. Isn't the serpentine belt directly off the engine? so would it even effect the serpentine?

EDIT: I'll try to get a video up sometime this weekend of if i can get a video of it clear enough...

Re: Need a new clutch?

what we are saying is that hard shifts are causing the belt to slip, so its time to replace it. I often had a chirp on hard shifts, it was the belt after all because of two things. I installed underdriven water pump and alternator pullies and needed a new belt and the noise went away, and this last weekend the stock clutch was repalced and in great shape ....
