Looking for a tranny

few weeks ago my cougar decided to lose 2nd and 4th gear. local shops quote $2000 to rebuild and well thats to much.

anyway, so im in the market for a replacement '99 I4 auto tranny. Which cars can i nab a replacement from? junk yards said some probes had the same one?

Trannys can be found at the corner of Woodward and 6 mile in Detroit. I'm sure they're roaming the streets near you as well.

Re: Looking for a tranny

There were only about 500 Cougars WORLDWIDE ever built with an automatic on a Zetec, so your chances of finding a donor there are slim to none.

There were THOUSANDS of automatic Zetec Ford Contours and Mercury Mystiques, so donors should be plentiful from that front - and probably pretty inexpensive. In fact, there are usually any of a dozen or so at the junkyard I frequent in Ohio, and complete transaxle assemblies are $100 if you pull it yourself.

Re: Looking for a tranny

I have one of those 2.0/CD4E orphans too. Mine won't go forward. I have scoured yards here in PA and all I can find has real high mileage. the labor involved in swapping one to me isn't worth a hi mileage used unit. I found some remans on EBAY but I am kinda nervous buying from a place I know nothing about. I would like to fix mine so I can save some gas.

Re: Looking for a tranny

well considering that the NEWEST contour is 8 years old, yes they are ALL going to be high mileage at this point.
