Shift cables at the transmission
Instead of selling the cougar im going to go ahead and fix it up. (Finally got sme extra money) Before I start tearing into things I just wanted to check the shift cables at the tranny to make sure there on there right and possibly thats the reason its stuck. My question is how do I even get to them with out tearing everything above them apart. Do you go in from the top or the bottom? Also if one of the cables did come off would i throw it back in 3rd and hook it back up. Im sorry this mmight sound like a dumb question but any help would be great

Re: Shift cables at the transmission
Go in from the wheel well. Take off the driver's wheel and there they are.
To get everything hooked back up correctly, you can shift gears using the big counterweight on top of the transmission. It moves much like the shifter does, so it's easy to tell if it's in Neutral. Put the shifter in N, and then set the counterweight to N, and hook up the cables. If it's unclear, have someone sit inside the car and move the shifter, so you can see how it moves on the outside.
