Exclamation Suggested MTX-75 Fluids

This is quoted from Terry Haines from FordContour.org. Terry rebuilds MTX-75s which quite a few NECO and Contour members have installed in their vehicles.

Quote:
DO NOT USE ATF OR EP type oils in ANY MTX75*
*Friction mod is not needed....unless 'you' have an issue with the lube...Stay away from it if you can*

*MY Choice of lubes in decending order:-

1. Motorcraft 'Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid # XT-M5-QS ('honey')

2. Royal Purple 'Syncromax'

3. AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 European Motor Oil

4. (General) A Full Synthetic 5W-40 Diesel Engine oil...which includes:-

Mobil Delvac 1, 5w40 (full synthetic, a reformulated version of Mobil 1 which is intended for diesel engines)
Chevron Delo 400, 5w40 (full synthetic version)
Shell Rotella T (full synthetic version, not to be confused with Rotella SB synthetic blend or regular Rotella T non-synthetic)

Thats 'IT'!!!!
Why you should NOT use ATF in your MTX-75.

The TSB on it

Here is a reference chart should anyone doubt the suggested fluid:

Re: Suggested MTX-75 Fluids

I hate to stir crap up again, but I find thus:

Redline MTL was not the evil oil that it was claimed to be.... but there are so many choices not using it is no big deal.

But as far as oils I used that were really good,

1. Torco RTF was the best (GL5 rated racing fluid, full synthetic with group IV/V base stocks, thin consistency, also guaranteed by torco not to hurt yellow metals and in my MTX it had awesome shifting in both Hot/Cold weather)
2. Torco MTF (another great fluid for normal MTX's I used it for about two years in my MTX75 with great results year round in the southwest.
3.Redline MT90. Another good fluid though I found in cold weather the shifting was a bit notchy here in the southeast.

RTF is specially formulated to exceed the load-carrying and extreme pressure wear protection properties of higher viscosity GL-5 or GL-6 gear oils. RTF provides anti-score protection for high speed, high load and high torque shock-loading conditions, while allowing smooth operation of synchronizers.
Features & Benefits
- Group IV/V 100% Synthetic Formula
- Maximizes power throughput
- Reduces gear box temperatures
- Superior level of shock load, EP and wear protection
Typical Uses

Also replaces SAE motor oil 10W30, 30, 10W40 or 40 where specified for transmissions. Commonly used in circle track (Winston Cup, Busch, modified, stock), road racing, formula, open wheel (Champ Cars, IRL Cars), off road, drag racing, sports compact street and domestic performance street applications. Highly recommended for achieving maximum power efficiency. Excellent for dry sump and fluid drive gear cases. Note: RTF is specifically recommended for Richmond Gear Racing Transmissions.

Re: Suggested MTX-75 Fluids

I'll look into this. According to RP's site their 10W40 is recommended for XT-M5-QS (Ford Honey) not Max-Gear.

Edit: If you looked at the other recommended lubes for the MTX 75 they are pretty much diesel oil at 40W not 90W.

Also did you look at the reference chart that I posted?

Re: Suggested MTX-75 Fluids

Interestingly, here's another post by Terry made back in April of this year in which he recommends 15W40 not 5W40. Perhaps it's only when converting from ATF to Ford-specified lubricant?

Re: Suggested MTX-75 Fluids

What are you trying to get at? If you have questions about it, bring it to Terry. Post it up on FCO for him to see.

Also please don't clutter this tread, if you want to discuss it, start a separate thread. Thanks!

Re: Suggested MTX-75 Fluids

I heard back from Terry. Apparently, any of the following, fully-synthetic, diesel engine oils are good: 5W40, 10W40, 15W40. Feel free to delete the "clutter" after updating the info. Thanks.
