3L performance.com

Well i just started working on the motor this morning... 12 am - 5 am. I was really disappointed in what i saw. There was a two things that just made me think twice...

1. The oval port done to fit the 2.5 heads looks like it was chiseled back in 10000 a.d.. And it doesnt even go all the way down into the port.. it stops with maybe a 1/16th to a 1/8th left to go.

2. After looking at the port job i noticed what really quirked me... In each port to the intake valves there was a ton of shavings. Not just a little, but bad enough that if you were standing a good 10 ft away you could see collections of shavings built up.

Overall for a motor that costs 2,500/exchange I wasnt impressed.

Re: 3L performance.com

a 1/16" isnt reallly something to complain about, the other is though. i would bust out the shop vac, and then maybe rotate the motor upside down on the motor stand, pop the oil pan off and have a look see

Re: 3L performance.com

Let me ask you this... did you bring up your concerns with blackcoog privately before posting about them here?

Re: 3L performance.com

No, because There's nothing he would be able to do to solve it..

I was planning on taking apart the heads anyway and cleaning everything, which is now done.

I just decided to post it on here since it is the feedback section.

Re: 3L performance.com

I agree it would have been nice to know you were unhappy. I was lucky to have someone forward the link of this thread to me. I may not have ever known that you had an issue with our engine. I tend to think of this feedback forum is for sales that go through this site so people know who to trust in the For Sale forum.

You do realize we do not port and polish the heads on these engines right? We never state that on the website that we polish the ports up to a glass finish. There really is no reason to expecially when all we are doing is hogging out the ports to match up with the 2.5L intakes. Also I'm not going to start grinding out more material further down the port just because it might look nicer to you. That's crazy! The air velocity will slow down and cause performance issues if you start grinding out material. The texture of the stock ports is probably rougher than our porting. Even my Cougar has the same type of ancient port job. I'm thinking about adding more engine pictures to the website anyway so maybe a shot of the porting would stop issues like this from popping up although I have to admit you are the first to complain about the port work or even the aluminum particles for that matter.

The ports were extensively cleaned out and tapped up to prevent anything from getting into them during shipping. While I could see there being a few tiny fragments being stuck deep in the port it definitely wasn't as bad as you are stating. Are you sure the person working on the motor didn't accidentally drop crap in the ports while working on it? There was absolutely no need to pull the heads apart to clean them. Either way from now on I'll be damn sure to double check the ports before the engine is shipped out to anyone.
