Great looking cars! Get a hold of Topik(ge now owns the 3L turbo). When DanG built the Turbo'd 3L I believe he did break the 400hp mark. However had a problem getting it to the ground. I know there are a few more things going on with the car though. What? He won't say.

Yeah the alternators can be a problem. And if you have a sunroof pre-01 you're pretty much doomed. BUT you can change all 6 plugs without pulling your uim

The problem with power adding on the 99-02 cougars unfrotunately lies in getting it to the pavement. It can be done, but not cheaply.

Re: looking for people.

Well I may plan on visiting some of my Tidewater peeps. If you'd like you can check out my car. It has more go than show. Basically the biggest performance mod to do is throw in a Taurus 3.0L engine in here. That gives us the largest power/torque benefit. Throw in some aftermarket goodies on it (headers, exhaust, etc...) and you can get a 240+ hp @ the crank car easily.

I mean 225 to the wheels isn't too bad for a New Edge Cougar right? This platform isn't designed for straight line acceleration, but it can take corners very well from the factory.

But yeah I do agree the aftermarket is lacking here. I'd personally like to see Ford introduce IRS with their GT Stangs for more improved handling. I considered buying a new Mustang but get turned off at the lack of an IRS. Although I doubt the Cougar will ever be introduced in Ford/Mercury's line up ever again. So it's nice to have the possible last piece of Mercury's history am I right?

Oh and you shouldn't need to take off the UIM to change the spark plugs. IIRC try disconnecting the coil pack next time. That should save you a bit of headache and time. The EGR problems isn't from the EGR but usually from the DPFE sensor. I think ford did update this problem along with the alternator as well.

I have a 3L also. I have around 250 to the crank.. and traction is one of those issues. RWD or AWD and a decent aftermarket would make the cougar a nice platform to mod. All the "problems" they have don't really seem like a big deal to me.. they're all fixable.. and all cars have problems.

Re: looking for people.

Well i'm not from this area but i am here for a week in Norfolk. How close is that to the Tidewater area?

And if you would like to meet up i can run deep into the 13's with my cougar. Is that close to what your old style cougar runs? If so i'll go by advance and get some cold plugs so we can run(didn't bring any with me for the juice).

Also...Stealthy...how far are you from the downtown Norfold area? I'm here until Friday afternoon if you wanted to meet up somewhere...

Re: looking for people.

Norfolk is part of Tidewater. Tidewater is more like a name for the group of cities in this area (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News).

Re: looking for people.

We are about 190 miles apart. Thats not too bad, who else is near you? Funny thing is, I wanted to meet up with DBryden and such in tidewater, and bring my buddy with an IRL. We could go to cecil or something where the track is there, that would be fun.

Re: looking for people.

somehow i couldn't stay away from referring back to this thread

fire-fox, though i'm normally sarcastic i was actually not entirely trying to be with my original post....even if you did originally come on here to race and talk about how fast your cougar was and then later say that you only joined for info on your wifes car

i've been working with cars for a bit now and i've seen plenty of people crawl out from the depths with insane applications on cars that people have only dreamt about for years...yours very well could have been one of them

not everyone with fast newer cougars is on here i'm sure...now yours would not be a newer cougar, but had it been, it would have been more impressive due to it never being seen before...and furthermore i would say get yourself out there and known because you would have had the fastest "new edge cougar" in the world and that is actually what this forum is called.."neco-new edge cougar owners"

i used to own a zetec cougar and i farted with more torque than it had on any given day...hope i explained myself better this time

tankgirl, you're weird and you let too much **** on this board get to you...but i hope in the future that my comments continue to effect you negatively as it does actually amuse me

Re: looking for people.

OK, so now i know what my old username used to be....alot of stuff has changed since i posted this!

The SVT calipers and rotors are no longer on the car, they finally gave out so i went back to stock. All the stock engine parts are back on the car, becuase we thought we were going to sell it at one point SO i took everything off and sold it. Shouldnt have done that

MY cougar is getting ready to be parted out and the engine is now going in my 70 mustang coupe.

Sorry for coming off so edgy to eveyrone at first, I guess I still had anger managament issues then, lol.

LOL, i said they were gay becuase they jam alot and the motors burn out in them in the 99-01 models from what I have seen.
