did Koni fix the problem where the struts would break if installed with coil overs?

its when you install coilovers AND the camber kit. with just coilovers there is no problems.

Does the D2 kit have a perch? Or is it the same size diameter spring/coil-over set-up as the GC's to allow 225/45/18s?

Their springs are tapered so they are the same diameter as stock springs at the top and narrow like GC springs at the bottom. I wouldn't anticipate a problem with a 225/45/18s, but there are a lot of other variables which would affect that.
