I want new springs, but I don't want to lower.

Hey my question is fairly simple.

I have a drift front bumper, and I want to do a little bit of suspension work over the upcoming summer. I want a comfier ride, but I don't want to lower the car any further because of the little clearance I get with the drift bumper.

Any suggestions? Do I have to stick with stock for my purposes?

Uhh...nice answer. On the more informational side, i would say look into a BAT setup. I dont personally have them, but people who have gone that route say that it firms up the ride without sacrificing ride height.

Re: I want new springs, but I don't want to lower.

I gave a short answer cause its been covered already.

Only other option would be to buy coil overs and leave them at the highest setting.

By How much will XXX spring lower my car?
Ground Control - 0" to 4" (adjustable)
D2 - 0" to 4" (adjustable)
Eibach - 1.2" Front, 1.0" Rear
Roush - 1.2" Front, 1.2" Rear
Progress - 1.8" Front, 1.2" Rear
Intrax - 1.6" Front, 1.4" Rear
H&R - 1.5" Front, 1.5" Rear
B+G - 1.8" Front, 1.8" Rear
Apex - 1.57" Front, 1.57" Rear
Koni Sport Kit - 1.5" Front, 1.5" Rear
BAT - 1.0" Front, 1.0" Rear

Re: I want new springs, but I don't want to lower.

Yeah, not much he can do... Springs of any kind other than stock = lower & stiffer (which means less comfy)
And getting / leaving adjustable GC's at max-height would totally defeat the purpose and be a waste of money...

IMO, if the car is a daily driver, its crazy to put a bumper-replacement type bodykit on in the first place...

Re: I want new springs, but I don't want to lower.

I don't see why a lot of people are having drivability problems with the Drift bumper, and lowering springs?

I had the drift on my Cougar with Intrax springs on KYBs, and the ride was fairly comfortable, yet stiff enought to enjoy twisties, and I bottomed out the very inner part of the drift bumper once due to a large depression in a main street in Springfield, MA where the whole car dipped down about 4 inches... and the bumper held up perfect!

Seriously, any of us can do at least a 1" drop with nearly any body kit, and we shouldn't have too many problems if you take driveways at the right angle, etc... etc... etc...

Re: I want new springs, but I don't want to lower.

Why do you need to change the Springs then? Unless you want something stiffer which means less comfortable ride. Why not get a better set of struts and leave the stock springs.

Re: I want new springs, but I don't want to lower.

Yah the only reason I am curious about the springs is that my whole strut/spring setup is ancient. I figured for financial purposes I'd have to get some replacement stock struts eventually, and springs would be something a little cheaper to upgrade. I mean my bumper does hit a lot, but my front struts are shot, so I that must make it more likely to happen. I think I'll take the 1" drop, being safe for any bumper, suggestion and take that into consideration as I look/shop around.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

Yah I mean I suppose you're right, this IS a daily driver; when I was looking at front bumpers (old one was destroyed) I figured I should get some that looked nice, and I wasn't considering practicality.

However, Greg's right in saying that if you learn how to take the right angles it's manageable. So oh well, I may not be able to let as loose as I would like to sometimes, but its what I'm stuck with, and I don't plan on changing it anytime soon.

Next time though... I will DEFINITELY put more thought into practicality.
