Thats pretty much becasue they are an OEM replacement but because they use a little stiffer (and Ido mean a little) stiffer oil people believe them to be the messiah over stock. Which isn't the case.

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

I prefer Bilstein shocks but they don't have a stock replacement for our Cougar. I think KYB are decent shock. I used them for many years on a 73 Landcruiser and they held up very well with a lot of off-road use.

I now have KYB struts on my stock suspension Cougar and they feel very much like the originals did when they were new. They have about 15K on them and are performing flawlessly.

I also got a set of KYB shocks for my 69 Fairlane Cobra and they are much better than what was on there when I bought the car.

Koni struts were just too much money for what I needed. I am a racer (SCCA legal) and like to take corners fast but the stock Cougar suspension is very acceptable to me. I leave the modified suspension for my race car and use Carrera shocks on it.

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

So, I guess that I'll go with the kyb and not the sensatrac. I'm not sure yet someone says it is junk and someone says it is a good replacement.

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

I need to replace my crappy Gabriel Ultra struts (lasted less than a year). Was thinking about the BAT European handling kit (struts and springs). Has anyone tried these, and if so, what's your opinion?

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

I posted a thread almost identical to this a few days ago, you guys.
KYB>Koni, there was another thread about the yellows leaking oil from them, and I had a buddy with them on a Jetta, and he had the same issue.

Your not the only one but dont be like a lot of the newbies. Please search this forum has more info on any part you can think of then probably any car forum I have been on. Do a search for BAT and if you cant find what you want do a search on this site CEG Forums - Powered by vBulletin they have the same kit.

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

Havent thought of the st200. are they any good?? so you say they asre better than the KYBS but how do they compare to the konis?

So really all i will be doing is driving on the street. no autox event or anything, im just lowering my car( Matrix Coilovers) from summit racing. looking for something that will last a good while. Im not a cheap ass but are konis worth it, im not trying to take a turn anywhere passed 30mph.

Maybe the GC later for more performance but till then....

Re: Koni's VS kyb?

Konis are just about the best reasonable strut you can get for this car. Plus, they are adjustable to 5 different levels of firmness through a dial on top of the strut.

There is always the D2 coilover kit, which is probably the ultimate - but it's probably also overkill for you, especially since you're asking this question.

KYB struts are just solid cheap stock replacement, for people who don't want to pay for Motorcraft OEM struts. They aren't at all crappy struts, but they aren't going to get you anything that the stock Motorcraft strut won't deliver.

Honestly - YOU DO get what you pay for in this case. The more you spend, the better quality you get.

I can't believe you are even wondering if KYB is better than Koni; and I can't believe someone actually said that they are...
