    Camshaft Position Sensor..

What generally causes these to fail? And when they do, what problems do they cause?

I'm getting a P0340 code. Thanks to another member here I was able to replace it my sensor with another one(not new). I reset my PCM and codes. And it came back on. At the time of replace ment I alsoreplaced my front manifold. That cleared my P0430 code. Now when I punch it either at freeway speeds or from a dead stop I get gurgling and a couple pops. Then the car goes like a bat outta hell.

I drove it about 200 miles to get it to relearn and its still gurgling and popping. Plus the P0340 code is still present. I don't want to put down for a brand new one yet until I'm positive that something else isn't causing this...

Am I correct in assuming the 0340 issue is whats causing this??

~I'm also going through my service manual and CD for any hints...

Truck engines will run with just the crank pos sensor and the cam pos
sensor or circuit open or shorted but it will derate.I presume it's the same with car engines.
