    IMRC - Advanced Check

To those of you, who are experienced in working with a multimeter.
Checking the electronic parts of the IMRC can be that easy.

Check this out and you'll see, how i found a defective component in my IMRC.

    Waldo

PS: I hope you understand a little bit german :D

Great document Waldo..It was put together well.. Maybe you know someone that might be able to make that into english? The pictures seemed pretty self explanatory..I'd just like to be sure I truly understand what I'm seeing.

    RE:IMRC - Advanced Check

If there is a big need for this checking manual, i'll try to make it in english too.

I started to write this manual only for checking the power transistor with a multimeter. In the most cases you should find the failure of the transistor with only doing that.
But there are some other components which can fail (electric motor, the switch). So i added the checking prodedure for them too.
Finally i added the "Active Checking the Transistor" method to be doubtless sure, is the Transistor Ok or not. This method should only be performed by experienced persons !

As you can see on the self explaining pictures, there are 2 diodes you have to check with the multimeter.
If the reading are not in the range between 0,5 - 0,8 Volts, the transistor is broken.
In my IMRC the Base-Emitter diode was burned, so my multmeter didn't show any reading.
If the diode has a short circuit, the readings are 0,0 - app. 0,1 Volts, the diode has short circuit.

The failure of the power transistor seems to appear very often in german cougars. I was reading here about the "IMRC season" summer and think, you have the same problems in your IMRCs. The Transistor - a heat sensitive component - gets very hot, because it's placed at the wrong position in the case of the IMRC. I replaced the original transistor with the BDW93C. It's the "strongest" i've found on the market in the TO220 package. It works since 2 weeks - of course, it's winter ;-))

Don't forget to disconnect your IMRC before checking.

The cable returns by the force of the secondaries' spring.
