When I press my trunk button, it releases my trunk, but not enough for it to pop open, it sticks....it will not open completely with the button.
I HAVE to use the key in the trunk method, what's wrong with the button?

Nothing...however the release springs are not strong enough to keep the hatch from relatching. This happens a lot when people put a heavier spoiler on their car...and the struts are NOT the problem.
Quick cure, go to Wal Mart and get plastic carpet savers for furnature. They are basically little plastic tabs about 3/4 of an ince wide and a few cm's tall. They have adheisive on one side. Stick them on either side of the latch, where the springs from the decklid meet the car. This will give your springs the extra "spring" they need to keep the hatch unlatched. I did that about two years ago and I have never had the problem since.

1. Try to simply stretch the spring(s) used to release the latch on your trunk lid by hand so they become slightly longer with no load. More compression when the lid is closed = more force to release the latch.
2. What Fett said.
3. Make sure you have 2 springs (one on either side of the latch). Some cougars came with only one (like mine). You can get an additional one from your dealer's parts department if you only have one (about 5$ IIRC). That did it for me.

Just wanted to add that a "heavier spoiler" isn't necessary to experience this problem - mine does it with the factory spoiler.

I have a stock spoiler too, and I noticed that it would not release all the way sometimes too, well at least I know I am not the only one with the same problem.

Actually that is a safety feature. You must press the button twice to have it open properly. This avoids accidentually opening the hatch while driving, with the remote, etc.
If pressing it twice doesn't pop it, then try the spring repairs.

That kind of makes since, but then again how often is your foot near the trunk button to pop it open while you are driving? The only time I ever accidentaly hit it is when I am getting in the car, then I hear the thump, and have to get back out and close the thing.

You don't need to press the button twice in the car, only on the remote. The remote doesn't work when the car is running anyway.

I have the stock spoiler. When I press the button, it does slightly release, but when I go to my trunk - I can't pull it open, it's stuck!
Is this what you guys are all telling me that you experience too?

Yes, the springs that pop the decklid up are not strong enough any more. They lost some of their spring, and allow the decklid to relatch itself. Slap something on there to hive the springs more height, your problem will be solved.
