Hey all,
I've done some searching and I think my car is possibly having a failing fuel pump. Basically in the upper RPM range it'll feel like the engine hits a brick wall, bucks, and bogs down. Eventually the power loss starts happening earlier and earlier in the RPM range until I can no longer drive it. The power loss doesn't occur unless my car is hot from sitting in traffic. It'll get worse until I can't drive it anymore, forcing me to pull off to the side of the road. But if I turn the car off, let it sit for a few minutes, and then turn it back on it's fine for a few more miles until it does it all over again.
2000 Mercury Cougar Power Issue - YouTube Here's the video.
I'm running WOT with a 1-2 shift. Not the greatest video, but the car was really shaking me once it hit about 5k.
I bought it last year and it's always done this since I've had it.
Specs and what I've done to it:
2000 Mercury Cougar V6 5 Speed with 160,000 miles.
New Plugs and Wires (Double Plat plugs)
New Fuel Filter
New Air Filter
New Power Steering Pump
New Serpentine Belt
Changed coolant
4 new oxygen sensors
Oil and oil filter change every 3-4k miles.
Could it possibly be a bad cat? Any help would greatly be appreciated. I don't feel safe driving it anymore for fear of it cutting out.
