    Possible Bad Fuel Pump? (Video)

    Hey all,

I've done some searching and I think my car is possibly having a failing fuel pump. Basically in the upper RPM range it'll feel like the engine hits a brick wall, bucks, and bogs down. Eventually the power loss starts happening earlier and earlier in the RPM range until I can no longer drive it. The power loss doesn't occur unless my car is hot from sitting in traffic. It'll get worse until I can't drive it anymore, forcing me to pull off to the side of the road. But if I turn the car off, let it sit for a few minutes, and then turn it back on it's fine for a few more miles until it does it all over again.

2000 Mercury Cougar Power Issue - YouTube Here's the video.

I'm running WOT with a 1-2 shift. Not the greatest video, but the car was really shaking me once it hit about 5k.

I bought it last year and it's always done this since I've had it.

Specs and what I've done to it:

    2000 Mercury Cougar V6 5 Speed with 160,000 miles.

New Plugs and Wires (Double Plat plugs)
    New Fuel Filter
    New Air Filter
    New Power Steering Pump
    New Serpentine Belt
    Changed coolant
    4 new oxygen sensors
Oil and oil filter change every 3-4k miles.

Could it possibly be a bad cat? Any help would greatly be appreciated. I don't feel safe driving it anymore for fear of it cutting out.

Yup, it was the fuel pump. Still bucks when it gets below a 1/4 tank, but I guess that's normal with these cars. I can actually go WOT through all gears now, yay! So glad it's running properly now... I think I messed up the sending unit when I fixed it; fuel gauge isn't reading right.

I kinda have the same problem with my car except it is only when I first start the car and try to floor it. Sounds like it is miss firing like it is starving for fuel I did a full tune up with new wires plugs and even checked the coil pack with my tester everything is fine with that so now I'm lost. Think it could be the maf? Cause once it warms up it is fine.

Also I have the svt lite upgrade. Also all new o2 sensors new filters it started doing this before I did the svt lite upgrade so now I'm lost
