Confused Passenger Side CV Axle Removal

I've dug through a bunch of the posts but haven't been able to come up with a clear answer so I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm attempting to replace my passenger side CV Axle. I see some users say to remove the axle and the intermediate shaft and separate them on a bench, and other users saying to use a slide hammer and claw. I'm hoping to go the slide hammer and claw route but didn't know where exactly I should be placing the claw to pull (I'm assuming on the outside of the support bearing). Also is there any risk of damaging the support bearing when trying to remove the old CV axle from the intermediate shaft using the slide hammer?

I did see that, thanks cougar97201! I've read through that, various other posts, watched the video, and have the Haynes manual but am still a little unclear. That video looks like hes working on the driver side. I'm just more concerned about the support bearing for the intermediate shaft, I don't want to damage it trying to remove the CV Axle with the slide hammer. Got any tips/tricks?

The support bearing is held on by 2 10mm nuts. Just take it loose and the int shaft just pulls right out of the trans.

Thanks B3NN3TT. I was hoping to to be able to separate the two without pulling the intermediate shaft (to avoid trans fluid leakage). Plus I don't have a vice or anything to assist me with separating the two once I have them out if I go that route. Is it possible to separate them with the slide hammer and without removing the intermediate shaft?

if you simply drain the trans fluid you can remove the jackshaft and cv axle just by unbolting the carrier bearing. the axle will fall right out when you remove those 2 10mm bolts. as for seperating them, you may just be able to replcae the entire unit as a whole its easier.

Thanks Quatrini. Everywhere local I have tried for the new CV axle (Advance, Autozone, Napa) says they only sell the CV axle and not the intermediate shaft so I think either way I'm going to have to separate the two.
