I have another gremlin in my cat possibly?

Today I went to start my car up and the trip computer/range/miles until no petrol/whatever you call it just had "- - -" and the fuel gauge was at empty even though I have a full tank of gas.

I drove the car away and about a minute later my petrol gauge went to full and the range said 319 miles or whatever it was (i.e. it started working again).

Something to be worried about or is this just another little Cougar quirk?

could be a wiring issue associated with the fuel pump assembly float or even a sticky float arm. i don't think it will affect anything other than you not knowing how much gas is in the tank and throwing off trip computer calculations, which won't affect car performance (til you run out of gas ). not a quirk...something is intermittently wrong but not very serious as long as you are aware of it and watch for it getting worse.
fyi: there were 2 different kinds of fuel pump assemblies for the 99 year. change over build date was 5/25/99, i believe. before and after pics attached.
