Tie rod popped out

So a few minutes ago I go to pull my car out of its spot and I hear this loud metal/metal *clunk* as I reverse...the car's not moving. I look at the right tire...pointed left. Left tire...RIGHT?! fml...the passenger side tie rod popped out . I turn the wheel right to match the other tire's direction to see if the clunk goes away but it still happens. Any idea why it would be making the clunk?

Uh... it seems pretty academic to me. The tie rod won't just "pop out" unless A: the nut is gone, or B: it's broken. Regardless, you need a new one before the car moves anywhere.

The nut fell off. I'm getting a new tie rod and *hoping* that it will fix the clunking, but I'm a little concerned because it wasn't like the tie rod was banging up against something...the car would roll about an inch and then hit some sort of resistance...enough to prevent the car from rolling in neutral on a slight incline. When I first tried to move the car out I gave it a little gas and it "clunked" over that resistance, just to get stuck in the roll-an-inch/resistance predicament again.
