How to replace rear struts '00 cougar?

I have a 2000 2.5L Cougar and I noticed a wet spot on my driver side rear wheel/tire. After inspection I believe that the strut is leaking. I am going to replace both rear struts. I Would like to do all 4 and Intrax lowering springs, but I don't have that money right now. I would like to get a better than stock strut that I could add the springs to later. So does anyone have a suggestion of what to get, the ones I have seen so far are Monroe, and KYB. I don't want to make this car into a race car, yet, but it would be nice to make her handle a bit better. Any suggestions on these or other brands? Also is the process for removing the struts posted anywhere around here? I have done all kinds of other work on vehicles, but I have always tried to stay away from front wheel drive and struts until now. So I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

    Struts/Springs, Courtesy UKCougar.net

the rears are pretty straightforward. they are bolted in at the top of the wheel well. basically just gotta take off the wheel, oil everything up good; release the pinch bolt, unclip the brake lines, unbolt the swaybar at the endlink, then bang on the hub till it comes loose and release the bolts at the top of the strut.

took me and a helper about 2.5 hours to change the rear springs and struts on my cougar with no real surprises.

Upgraded struts are available through the Contour catalog on British American Transfer. They are based in Sarasota, Fla.

And just a warning - upgraded struts are not cheap.

Thanks for the links. I defiantly appreciate the link for the process with pictures of front and back struts. I am thinking for now I will have to go with the Monroe sensa trac struts. seems like it will be the best option for me for now. Thanks guys.

The first struts i've ever touched were the rears on my cougar about a year ago. It was VEEEERY easy and took me 1.5 hours tops. I used a how-to that i found on these forums. Shouldn't be much of a problem... The fronts are slightly harder though.
