Exclamation Help Asap

I took off my fenders today and I ran into some things I didnt like.
Please help me out here if you know what this does or is.

Looks like a male connecter too something????

Unconnected wire????

zip tied to the shock????

Then I had the town cop stop and ask me what I was doing and in that time I lost track of how this foam piece goes back on the fender???

It goes on here some how?

Re: Help Asap

Well I'm going to assume that the cable is the brake wear sensor. Do you have any lights that come on in the gauge cluster or overhead console? The foam goes with the wheel arch of the body...at least I think it does. Its for crash & to help the fender keep its shape I believe, although not necessary.

Re: Help Asap

The first is the bleeder for your caliper.

The second is the connector for the brake wear indicator.

Not sure about the foam piece - never noticed it on mine.

The light should be in the overhead console. Do you have a '99? Only they had them.

It's the "Excessive Brake Wear" indicator - take a look at the Guide to the Lights thread. The wire tie holding it to the strut by the connector isn't factory, and the wire tie down lower is from the factory.

The usual way to bypass it (for people who aren't buying pads with the sensors in them) is to short the two wires at the connector you found, but they could also clip the LED connection in the overhead console, and there may be other ways I'm unaware of.

When you turn on your ignition does that light come on? It should for a few seconds to demonstrate that it's working. If it doesn't then the previous owner must've disconnected the LED somehow.

The overhead console has an excessive brake wear indicator. If that bulb was disconnected, it wouldn't show on the "exterior bulb failure" indicator, because that is designed to let you know that an exterior bulb has failed (headlight, brake light, etc.). It does not tell you if a bulb inside the car has failed, on the grounds that you'd probably be able to figure that one out on your own. (Also, I know it ignores the side marker lights in each headlight, or at least mine did. But I think it reports on every other exterior bulb.)

The bulb in the overhead console is actually an LED so it's not likely to be burned out. More likely, someone found a way to disable the excessive brake wear indicator system.

The test I was referring to was that when you turn the ignition on, if you watch, just about every warning indicator lights up (which is how I took the picture in the aforementioned thread). What I was saying was that the previous owner may have disconnected the LED in the overhead console, and you'd be able to tell by watching it when you turn the ignition on, because it wouldn't light up.

Re: Help Asap

Im only the second owner of the car and when I had bad pads acouple of years ago I put ceramic pads on in wich turned the light on. I happend to trade the cougar in last
november on an eclipse gst at a dealership long story short the eclipse was junk (lemon)
So I got the cougar back and the dealership put new pads on it. the light was on when I traded it in and when I got it back the light was off
but there is no sort of an adapter or anything in the since that would be somthing dummy wise to confuse it
