Had a track day yesterday and few problems came up
I had a track day yesterday with my 2,5L Cougar and few problems came up. The track is designed for kart racing but it is used also for car competitions and is the most favorite track for the car clubs in our country. Usually the track is completely drivable with 2nd gear only and best times (not mine
) are 50 - 60 seconds per lap. Anyway, we had 4 laps per run and here are the problems.First, accelerating out from the right corners I heard some rattle noise from front right. Can it be only the CV-joint or can it be something else also? I'm frightened of the oiling problem of the Duratec engines and mine cars oil level was about 4mm lower from max level. I hope that this was not the source of the noise. Second, at final lap noticed some weakness in breaking and after finishing and parking the car at the bit area there was some vapor around breaks. So is it possible, that the break oil is gone bad or is there something else wrong? My last car, that was Ford Escort 1,6 DOHC, had perfect brakes. So can you help me out with those?

Rattle noise of a ticking noise?
The braking weakness is probably just your cruddy OEM pads going through brake fade, and possibly that start of cooking your fluid. Once again, the stock braking on the Cougar is pretty cruddy and fades FAST. Other than the ticking noise, what you are experiencing , Id say is pretty norm. |

Re: Had a track day yesterday and few problems came up
Thank you for help. It is not ticking noise and it does not sound like CV-joint I have heard on other cars. Can any crankshaft bearing make a noise?
