Jesus Christ, did my transmission fall out?
So as of yesterday, I entered into another fun-filled round of "Oh **** something is wrong with my car and I certainly don't have the money to fix it!
"I'm leaving work and it sounds like I'm dragging something. At slow speeds it just sounds like theres something underneath dragging. You can hear it even worse turning (especially right). I've inspected underneath, and it's not something obvious. That would be too simple right? ![]() Well today I'm leaving for church and wouldn't you know, my transmission (or at least the auto shifter) is not shifting out of Park smoothly. The lock-out is sticking, and the car harshly will shift into drive. Not to mention, the accelerator feels... mushier kinda like my sisters 4cyl Coug. I have a 2000 v6 Cougar and if it's something that my shop friend can't easily fix... on the curb she goes. I don't have the money. ![]()

Does the engine rev normally when the car is in park? I would've thought transmission but you said the accelerator doesn't feel right...
Off topic: I find it ironic that you're cursing about something that happened on the way to church.

![]() Yes, there's no problem with the revs in park no idle shake. The accelerator may just be me being crazy but I could have sworn that it feels different.

Re: Jesus Christ, did my transmission fall out?
just out of curiousity, were you parked on an incline at church? my atx has issues with getting out of park when im on parked on an angle for some reason -- it doesn't do the rest of what you described though.

Re: Jesus Christ, did my transmission fall out?
If Youre Parking On An Incline It Helps To Put The E-brake On Before You Put The Car In Park When Youre Parking...as For The Sound Youre Hearing, Im Wondering If You Have A Bad Front Wheel Bearing Or Cv Joint Or Both...does The Sound Get Louder With Speed? Does It Make A Clicking Noice When You Turn?

Re: Jesus Christ, did my transmission fall out?
No clicking noise, and its really only audible at lower speeds. Like 20mph and under.
My car for a long time has had a shake to it. Previously, 65-75 and it felt like an airplane takeoff, it shook so bad. But I got the tires replaced and that's fine. But recently theres a slight shake at 35-40 and 65-70, but nothing as bad as before. That's happened for quite some time though.

Re: Jesus Christ, did my transmission fall out?
To me it sounds like either your cv or wheel bearing is going....but you only hear it at low speeds. hmmm Have you checked the brakes/calipers, they might possibly be rubbing.
I'd also suggest checking out all the suspension bushings & motor mounts. Something might be worn out & is only noticeable when at low speed/turning. |
