the imrc rod, i guess
Well today ive taken my old uim off and im putting on my svt lite finally
. But when i took off the manifold i noticed the plastic clip on the rod that connects the secondarie ports in the front of the engine to the ones in the back has broken off, so the secondaries in the back were the only ones opening. Ive already got the stuff all taken off so i cant go buy a new one. Does anyone know if i can just sauder a ball on the end of the rod to hold it on? Thanks |

Re: the imrc rod, i guess
*shakes head* just take the bar out for now and unplug your imrc. obviously your secondaries wont open till you put the bar back in and it will most likely throw a CEL. then go through my posts and within the last month or so I made a post all about the grommets you need to properly reinstall the bar. you can either buy them at ford or an autoparts store. i have the ford parts number as well as pictures of what you can use instead in the post.
please keep in mind without your secondaries your passing and downshifting power will be compromised, so drive smart, not stupid.

WTF MIKE?!?!
The rear bank of secondaries still work, so don't unplug the thing. The fronts are stuck open. Your top end is NOT AFFECTED. You are getting a little too much air off-idle, so you'll have a stumble from a stop, and probably a lumpy idle. And definitely a Check Engine Light. You can replace the grommet anytime, but obviously, the sooner the better. Ford sells them for like SEVEN DOLLARS...

Re: the imrc rod, i guess
If my memory serves me correct, the rear set of secondaries are the ones that are spring-loaded per say. Than the front ones are connected via the rod making them work together of course. SO you can either keep the fronts open or closed since there is no linkage at the current time. I would keep them closed so you idle better and just don't go over 4500 rpms for now. The rears will still work of course since they are connected directly in a sense.
Mikes idea isn't bad at all and you wont through a CEL unless you were to call upon the secondaries. I don't know why Andy is yelling WTF for but if you want the secondaries to work right now till you get the grommets, just find yourself a used metal coat-hanger and make a new bar, put it through the holes and bend it tight..... Doesn't take rocket science guys!

Re: the imrc rod, i guess
The fronts fall open when they are disconnected. You can't just close them and be done with it. The air pushes them open as soon as you start the engine.
It seems exceedingly stupid to just eliminate the entire assembly just because 3 runners won't close. Deal with it, and fix it when you can. At least you maintain drivability, which you will NOT if you unplug the entire system.

Re: the imrc rod, i guess
Just buy grommets, use a coat hanger or even use tip-ties. Its really nothing worth getting all annoyed at. Mike was just trying to help.

Re: the imrc rod, i guess
In the Help section at Advanced Auto they sell a package with an assortment of clips and things for door locks. There is a little yellow one in that package that works perfectly.
