the thread i linked him to is a post that i made which has the ford part number for the grommets. it also shows pictures of the help product in question and says where it can be bought.

andy, i don't see why you got so up in arms over my idea. it is sound advice. was it possibly a little overkill? yes - you do not necessarily need to unplug the imrc. however, was it meant as a permanent solution? no.

the guy was so concerned about the bar he didnt even want to drive his car and was talking about soldering it on! i posted an extremely useful link and the guy was very appreciative. in his case, taking out the bar wouldn't make any difference at all (and if he deicdes to replace both grommets, he'd need to take it out anyway). with only a portion of the secondaries opening, the car will run like ass! if you unplug the imrc, it will still run like ass! will it be noticeably worse? yes. this is why i wanred him that power would be an issue and to drive smart. quite frankly, the guys seemed so worried about it, that it seemed to me that he was going to get it taken care of TODAY, not drive around with his imrc unplugged for weeks. besides, if he takes it easy, keep it under say 4000 rpm (not that difficult if driving in the city to the autoparts store), what difference would it make anyway?

Re: the imrc rod, i guess

dont solder the thing together, you can access the IMRC linkage with the UIM bolted down, all you have to do is remove your air intake hose to get a good reach into that area, put it together, go to ford on monday, get the grommet and put it in there in 20 minutes time.

Done

Re: the imrc rod, i guess

looks great man! hows it feel?

btw, you dont need the ford bushings if you have the ones from advanced in there already, they'll work the same way.

Not at all. Like I mentioned before - only a portion of the secondaries are CLOSING. The front bank is stuck open when the linkage breaks, simply because of gravity.

I actually drove my car around for God-knows-how-long with a disconnected IMRC rod - I didn't even realize it was like that. It drove great, but had an off-idle stumble - hardly noticeable, but there - and throwing a CEL.

My point is just that there's really no use in going the extra step of actually unhooking the secondary system, when the drivability would be EXCEEDINGLY worse that way. Why break your car's legs entirely, when it just has a virtual "stubbed toe"? I was just a bit flabbergasted that you would advise someone to do that.
