Hesitations everywhere in the power band
I have been battling this problem ever since I got the car... I picked up an SVT contour back in February and I have been trying to figure out this hesitations problem I have been having.
Since I have been dealing with CEL since I got the car, and finally worked out the problems, the CEL is off and I am still having this problem.. Anyways, onto the description... When it gets hotter outside, and when the motor is up to normal operating temperature, I get very noticeable hesitations in the low end and the top end, its the most noticeable when the secondaries open, I feel the surge of power then almost immediately afterwards the power drops off (but the engine note doesn't change). Same thing happens down low around 2100-2500 RPM, but its a lot more subtle. I noticed it also gets worse the harder I drive. I also noticed a couple of times when I bring the car up to reline, I hit fuel cutoff at about 6500 RPMs, Which I thought it was 6800 on the SVT. I did some investigating, found that the car has new spark plugs (auto lite Double Plats) and brand new Spark plug wires. I also want to point out that about a month ago I pulled P0230, which is the Fuel pump primary circuit failure, which I found strange because I can run the car till the gas light comes on, and it still runs and drives just the same... I deleted the code and it never came back... I know this is a cougar forum guys, but I want some good input over here.

Re: Hesitations everywhere in the power band
I'm sure it could use a new fuel filter; probably not the cause of the problem, but who knows?

Re: Hesitations everywhere in the power band
Is the A/C off when this happens? That's probably not what it is, but make sure you're still having the problem when the A/C (and defroster) is off.

Re: Hesitations everywhere in the power band
A/C doesnt work in the car, well it does but it needs to be recharged for it to actually work properly.
Because it doesnt work I dont use it, but I had thought of that. I am wondering if its my fuel pump creating the issue, or even just a combination of the filter and the filter sock on the fuel pump.

Re: Hesitations everywhere in the power band
Another thought that crosses my mind is the coil pack. Unfortunately there's no real way to tell without replacing it.

I've got a spare one available to me.

Re: Hesitations everywhere in the power band
check the plug gap? check for carbon tracking? check the status of the fuel pump or the fuel pressure? how is the vacuum line to the FPR?

Edit: I just checked the FPV Vac line, its connected and has no breaks in it. So im back to checking my plug gap, carbon tracking, and a fuel filter/possible bad fuel pump.

Re: Hesitations everywhere in the power band
Pull a spark plug or two. If you see or feel little carbon "tracks" on the porcelain, you have an ignition problem, and need new plugs and wires immediately.
