Start by cleaning your battery terminals.

Re: not starting

not sure if you have been doing anything on the car, but this may be worth checking...after working on the engine, it stopped running suddenly....it turned out to be the lead on the coil pack... it showed up in the fault codes too..G.

Re: not starting

it turns out the timing belt broke, anyone has a way of getting the timing cover of the 4 cylinder engine, cause it looks like the engine mount has to be loosened to even get it out

Re: not starting

I'm not sure how it is in the Cougars, but on the Contours there are two 10mm bolts holding the timing cover in place. There is a PS line running across the top of the cover making it difficult to pull out but I think you should be able to. But I could be mistaken...

Re: not starting

yea its a real pain in the butt to change. iirc you have to put a jack under that side of the engine and take the mount off to do it.

Re: not starting

Wow I TOTALLY brain farted last night. They aren't 10mm bolts, they are 8mm, not that it matters *too* much.

If you're going to fix this yourself, which I recommend, you should purchase the Gates timing belt kit, and head on over to CEG and read the How-To's on the timing belt replacement.
