I would assume tranny fluid, not cooling fluid comes out, or?

No rough idle.
But at mid range RPM and "half load", some minor "missfires" are noticeabe (just not running smooth).

Gas mileage is 22 mpg (measured) and 25 (display) on mostly highway.

Car accelerates not too impressive under 4000 RPM, but responsive above.

Any suggestions where to start the search?

Transmission fluid is correct.

First, is the A/C and defroster off? Mine had those "misses" until I realized it was just the compressor kicking on and off. Check that, first.

As for accelerating slowly under 4000 RPMs, it will be somewhat slow there in the name of economy. But double check that the IMRC isn't sticking open and causing it to run poorly at low RPMs.
