IMRC Installation

Hi all,

I've been told by two shops that my IMRC is throwing codes (CEL light is on) and needs to be replaced because the motor is bad. I originally thought I could install it myself (so I've already ordered it, and it's on its way), but after looking at the cable that comes out of it, it looks like it's a bigger job that I thought. Is it really difficult to replace, or can someone who's only ever changed spark plug wires do this? And...how does the cable connect to the metal cable wrapping it's connected to?
Thanks in advance!!!

Power loss above 4,000 RPMs? Check your IMRC!

It's not that hard.

Re: IMRC Installation

Thanks Skater - what do you mean when it says, "squeeze the end together and push it through"? Push it through where? How would I squeeze the end together? Do you have any pictures? Sorry for the questions, but I just want to be sure of what I'm doing before I do it...thanks!

Re: IMRC Installation

No pics, but it's REALLY easy. There's a plastic clip on the end of the cable that, when it was installed, was pushed through the hole, then two wings spread out to hold it in place. To get it out, you have to push the wings back together then push it back through. That's all.

Re: IMRC Installation UPDATE and broken stuff

Alright! I've installed the new IMRC - it was pretty challenging for someone with bass player hands like me, but the shop wanted $515 to install it and I found one for $180...so I saved a whack load of dough. The instructions here were spot on - thank you!!!

I had to take the throttle body off - the first time I've ever used a torque wrench was when I was putting it back on. Guess what happens when you're not sure if you're supposed to stop with a torque wrench? Bolts break

The bolt on the left side top that holds the power cable to the TB snapped. Most of it is still holding the TB on - will it be okay to drive it like this? Have I caused more damage? How do I remove the "back half" of the bolt? Do I have to buy an OEM bolt to replace this one? Do I have to replace this one?

Thanks all!!!

You'll have to remove the tb out, then figure out a way to get the broken bolt out. You can replace it with any bolt, as long as it's the correct thread/pitch. The bolt goes into soft aluminum, be careful tightening them down. As long as there's no vacuum leak, it "should" be ok.

Re: IMRC Installation UPDATE and broken stuff

I can't take the TB off until I get the bolt out - it's hold it on, but only half of it is (hope that makes sense). So how do I get it out? Should I take it to a mechanic?

Re: IMRC Installation

Nada.... you should be able to go to your local Home Depot/Ace/Lowe's, etc. and pick up a set off extractors called "Grab It." They were advertised on tv awhile ago. Simply drill the broken bolt as per instructions on the Grab It bits.

Re: IMRC Installation UPDATE and broken stuff

Will there be any permanent damage to the TB or manifold (I think that's where it goes into)? Will I need a new gasket if I'm just replacing the one bolt? Sorry for being such a newb! Thanks again everyone!
