Wash my hands?

Well, my Cougar is the first car I have ever owned. In retrospect, I think I jumped a little too quickly into purchasing this car. When I test drove it, I don't recall seeing the CEL. In fact, I didn't notice it until a few moments after I had purchased the car. Over the past week, I have determined that I need a new DPFE sensor and likely, a transmission rebuild. The car is throwing a P1744 code indicating the torque converter isn't locking. The car's engine is sitting at 163,000 miles.

Should I do myself a favor and get rid of this car while I can?

Re: Wash my hands?

That all depends on you. If it was me I would fix it and keep it but that's just me.

Re: Wash my hands?

I payed $2100 for it. I really love the Cougar, but I'm struggling with the thought of saving $2100 again to pay for a tranny rebuild. That would bring my total expenditure to $1000 over KBB during the two weeks that I've owned the car. I'm 16 and going to college next year, so it really all comes down to money.

Re: Wash my hands?

Did you buy it from a dealer? If so, no drivetrain warranty?

Well, the guy I bought it from was selling it for a friend. The guy himself worked for a dealer, but I bought it from a private seller. Technically.

Re: Wash my hands?

For five minutes. I was apprehensive because I had never driven by myself before :/. Everything seemed fine though.
