Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
I just finished installing two subs. After I finished wiring up the first one I put it in the box and tested it to make sure it was all working properly. I was able to turn the sub on/off and turn the sub up and down with the CD player.
After I installed the second one I tested it out, and the music played, but I wasn't able to turn them on/off or turn the sub up or down. I tried to check the remote wire and it seemed to be securely connected everywhere so now I am lost. What could be causing this problem? Thanks

Re: Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
possible interference... they may be out of phase.

Re: Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
are the subs going??? it sounds like either what momo said (phase problem) if the subs are going in that case reverse the polarity of one of them and try again. or your amp going into protect mode from presenting an ohm load that is too low for the amp to power.
eg. 2, 4 ohm subs can be wired to either an 8 ohm load or a 2ohm load. two 2 ohm subs can be wired to either a 4 ohm or a 1 ohm load. If the amp is not rated for running at a the lower impedance it will shut down if it has a protect mode and a little light labeled protect will be on.

Re: Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
They are not running in protect mode. Each sub is DVC 4 ohm wired down to 2 ohm powered by an amp that claims its 1 ohm stable. So I would assume it wouldnt be the problem.
What do I do to reverse the polarity?

Re: Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
My subs each have their own mono amp. The coils have been wired down to 2 ohms following diagram in the manuel.

Re: Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
did you try playing the second sub by itself?
i know you said you tested the first one by itself.

Re: Possible Sub/Amp wiring problem?
what amps are they? how are they wired up? do you have a meter?
are the amps actually powering up just no output, if there not powering up check your remote wire take them back out and make sure you have good connection! if powering more than 2 amps might wanna use a relay (but thats just me love relays). if the are powering up just not hitting i would check rca wiring or the head unit. some headunits have a mute or donot output on sub rca's unless selected in menu. which head unit are you running also? |
