    Exclamation cigarette lighter

hey guys somehow my cigarette lighter is getting to much power, the fuse keeps blowing every time i connect any kid of charger or even the plain lighter. Some one told me my alternator may be overcharging but i don't think that could cause the issue. any ideas would be appreciated. the wires seem fine behind the outlet.

PS i have a dead cell phone i do believe it got too much power and fried it, i thought the chargers themselves had a built in fuse and would shut off, but i guess not...

Its not getting to much power LOL! You have a short. Try getting a new cig socket. They get old and sometimes short inside. Each time someone shoves a cig in there it leaves trash(tobacco, mary jane).

Yeah, it's probably the socket shorting - when you push something in there, it's probably causing two metal pieces in there to touch, thereby shorting it.

Check behind the lighter, there are two connections in the rear that may be touching.

Thanks everybody new cigarette socket and lighter worked like a charm, seems like the lighter itself shorted the the old socket out. I tried the new socket with the old lighter it it shorted. my brother used to smoke in the car too much..... anyway apparently there are only 11 sockets with the little light on top in the US so the guy said they will probably be discontinued real soon and got the whole assembly.
Thanks for all your help guys!!!

How did you change the socket. Did you have the break the green ring to pull it out?

It unscrews, but doing the install can sometimes prove a pain in the ass, and it can prove to not be the most professional job when your done, depending on how quickly you figure the puzzle out.

For me, I just went ahead and bought a new cig. insert.
